Directorate General of Corrections uncovers narcotics circulation at Kerobokan Prison, Bali
The Directorate General of Corrections (Ditjenpas) of the Ministry of Immigration and Corrections (Kemenimipas) has uncovered narcotics circulation within Kerobokan Class II Penitentiary in Badung Regency, Bali, involving prisoners. The disclosure followed a comprehensive surprise inspection of the prison environment and inmates led directly by the Director of Pamintel, after coordination with the Bali Regional Office of Ditjenpas on Wednesday, 20 May.
During the inspection, officers found prohibited items including narcotics, mobile phones, and alcohol. After the searches, Ditjenpas reported the findings and coordinated with Bali Police on Wednesday, 20 May around 17:00 local time as a follow-up. Bali Police dispatched the Director of Narcotics and a team, along with the Narcotics Unit of the Bali Police Resort, to receive the complaint and the evidence.
As of now, the Director Pamintel and team and the Internal Compliance Director and team, together with Bali Police and Polres Bali, are continuing investigations and development. Ditjenpas did not specify how many detainees were detained or how much narcotics evidence was found. It is stated that both prisoners and prison officers who were detained are still under investigation and development. Data detailing the numbers will be provided after the investigations are complete.
Ditjenpas is coordinating with the National Narcotics Agency (BNN) for further development, and today will jointly conduct a further development of the results of the disclosure at Kerobokan Prison. The results will be announced after the investigations are complete, with a joint release by the involved parties.
