Directorate General of Corrections Reveals Reasons for Ammar Zoni's Return to Nusakambangan After Sentencing
Muhammad Ammar Akbar, alias Ammar Zoni, has returned to serving his prison sentence at the Super Maximum Security Prison in Karang Anyar, Nusakambangan, after being sentenced to seven years in prison for selling narcotics inside the Salemba Detention Centre. The Directorate General of Corrections (Ditjen PAS) has explained the reasons for Ammar Zoni’s return to Nusakambangan.
Ditjen PAS spokesperson Rika Aprilianti initially explained the reasons for transferring Ammar Zoni and his associates from Nusakambangan to the Jakarta Narcotics Prison. She stated that Ammar Zoni and his associates needed to attend a series of court hearings following a request from the Central Jakarta District Prosecutor’s Office.
“Allow me to explain again that the transfer of Ammar Zoni and his associates from Nusakambangan to the Jakarta Narcotics Prison was based on a letter of request from the Head of the Central Jakarta District Prosecutor’s Office to the Director General of Corrections for Ammar Zoni to attend the trial in Jakarta, so they were temporarily placed in the Jakarta Narcotics Prison,” Rika said when contacted on Sunday (10/5/2026).
Rika stated that the letter also mentioned that Ammar Zoni and his associates would be returned to Nusakambangan after sentencing or the completion of the trial. She noted that Ditjen PAS was merely implementing the contents of that letter.
“In the letter, the clause clearly stated that after completing the trial, Ammar Zoni and his associates would be returned or resume serving their sentences at the Karang Anyar Prison, Nusakambangan. So, we are just carrying out the contents of that letter,” she said.
Rika assured that Ammar Zoni’s return to Nusakambangan was not a court order. “So it’s not based on a court order, because after the inmate is sentenced or becomes a convict, the authority for their placement lies with the corrections system or the Directorate General of Corrections,” she stated.
It was previously reported that Muhammad Ammar Akbar, alias Ammar Zoni, was sentenced to seven years in prison for selling narcotics inside the Salemba Detention Centre in Central Jakarta. Now, Ammar Zoni and his associates have returned to serving their sentences at the Super Maximum Security Prison in Karang Anyar, Nusakambangan.
“Ammar Zoni and four other inmates in the same case have been transferred from the Jakarta Narcotics Prison to the Super Maximum Security Prison in Karang Anyar, Nusakambangan,” said the Deputy Head of the Cooperation Division of Ditjen PAS, Ministry of Law and Human Rights, Rika Aprilianti, to reporters on Saturday (9/5).
Ammar Zoni and his associates were taken to the Nusakambangan Prison on Friday (8/5) at 23:55 WIB. Before the transfer, administrative processes and health checks were conducted.
“The transfer was carried out with escort and accompaniment from the Central Jakarta District Prosecutor’s Office, personnel from the Ditjen PAS Intelligence Directorate, TNI and Police personnel, as well as staff from the Jakarta Narcotics Prison,” she explained.
