Directorate General of Corrections Returns Ammar Zoni to Nusakambangan Prison
Jakarta (ANTARA) - The Directorate General of Corrections (Ditjenpas) of the Ministry of Immigration and Corrections (Kemeimipas) has once again detained Ammar Zoni and five other convicts at the Super Maximum Security Prison in Karang Anyar, Nusakambangan.
Ditjenpas spokesperson Rika Apriliantai, when contacted in Jakarta on Saturday, stated that Ammar Zoni and his five accomplices had been transferred from the Jakarta Narcotics Prison to Nusakambangan Prison on Friday, 9 May 2026, at 23:55 WIB.
“Following the decision from the Central Jakarta District Court, which imposed a seven-year sentence on Ammar Zoni and his associates, the individuals concerned have been returned to the super maximum security facility in Karang Anyar to serve their sentences,” Rika said.
She explained that the actor, whose full name is Muhammad Amar Akbar, had previously been held at Nusakambangan Prison due to his classification as a high-risk (high risk) inmate.
Subsequently, due to ongoing proceedings at the Central Jakarta District Court, the Head of the Central Jakarta Prosecutor’s Office wrote to Ditjenpas requesting the temporary placement of Ammar Zoni at the Jakarta Narcotics Prison until the trial process was complete.
“So the transfer of Ammar Zoni from Salemba Detention Centre to Nusakambangan, along with the other five individuals, is because they fall into the high-risk category,” she said.
After being sentenced to seven years’ imprisonment on 23 April 2026, in accordance with the request from Ditjenpas, the convicts were returned to Nusakambangan Prison.
“In the clause of the request letter, the Director General of Corrections had already stated that after the trial period is completed, the individual should be returned to the Super Maximum Security Prison in Karang Anyar to serve their sentence,” Rika said.
“Since the trial has concluded and the verdict has become final from the prosecution and the court, Ammar Zoni and his accomplices have been detained again at Nusakambangan,” she added.
Before the transfer, administrative processes and health checks were conducted under escort and supervision by the Central Jakarta Prosecutor’s Office, personnel from the Ditjenpas Intelligence Directorate, TNI and Police members, as well as staff from the Jakarta Narcotics Prison.
“Ammar Zoni and his associates arrived at Nusakambangan on Saturday at 06:55 WIB and were placed at the Super Maximum Security Nusakambangan Prison,” Rika said.
Upon arrival at Nusakambangan, admission procedures were carried out, including the handover minutes for inmates, urine tests, health examinations, and other administrative activities.
“The admission and placement were carried out in accordance with standard operating procedures,” Rika emphasised.
Ammar Zoni and the other five convicts—Asep Bin Sarikin, Ardian Prasetyo Bin Ari Ardi, Andi Mualim, Adi Chandra Maulana, and Muhammad Rifaldi—were legally and convincingly proven guilty of the criminal offence of conspiracy to unlawfully act as intermediaries in the sale and purchase of Category I narcotics weighing more than five grams.
In the case involving these six defendants, they had interconnected roles. The methamphetamine was discovered on 3 January 2025 by Salemba Detention Centre security officers during a search.
Ammar Zoni acted as an intermediary in the drug distribution chain within the detention centre, receiving the methamphetamine from other defendants and passing it on to other inmates.
This marks the fourth time Ammar Zoni has been involved in drug cases. The first was in July 2017, when the former husband of Iris Bella was arrested along with two of his assistants. He was sentenced to one year of rehabilitation at RSKO Cibubur.
After completing rehabilitation, on 8 March 2023, Ammar Zoni was arrested again by police at his home in the Sentul area, Bogor. He was sentenced to seven months in prison for proven drug abuse and was released in October 2023.
Just two months after his release, the actor from the soap opera 7 Manusia Harimau repeated his actions in December 2023 and was sentenced by the West Jakarta District Court to three years in prison and a fine of Rp1 billion in August 2024.
He was then detained at Salemba Detention Centre in Central Jakarta. While detained, he was found to be involved in drug distribution within the facility along with the five other convicts. He even received payment for the drug transactions in the detention centre.
For that case, on 16 October 2025, Ammar Zoni and his associates were transferred to Nusakambangan Prison.
