JAKARTA, KOMPAS.com - The Directorate General of Corrections (Ditjen Pas) has stated that Ferdy Sambo, the former Head of the National Police’s Professional and Security Division now serving as an inmate, is pursuing a Master’s (S2) programme in Theology through a scholarship provided by Sekolah Tinggi Global Glow Indonesia (STGGI).

Rika Aprianti, Deputy Head of the Cooperation Sub-Directorate at Ditjen Pas, explained that among the Christian inmates at Cibinong Class IIA Prison, Ferdy Sambo expressed interest in the scholarship.

“Cibinong Prison has developed cooperation with Sekolah Tinggi Global Glow Indonesia (STGGI) to provide S1 and S2 Theology scholarship programmes for Christian inmates, one of whom is interested in the programme, Ferdy Sambo,” said Rika when contacted by reporters on Wednesday (13/5/2026).

Rika added that the classes are conducted online from within Cibinong Prison.

“This programme is part of efforts to guide and improve the human resource quality of inmates so they are ready to return and contribute positively to society,” she stated.

Rika noted that Article 9 letter C of Law No. 22 of 2022 on Corrections stipulates that all inmates have the right to education.

She further mentioned that currently, all inmates at Cibinong Prison have the opportunity to continue formal education.

Previously, the Directorate General of Corrections (Ditjen Pas) stated that all inmates have the right to receive and continue education, not just Ferdy Sambo, the former Head of the National Police’s Professional and Security Division now serving as an inmate.

This was conveyed by the Director General of Pas in response to social media reports about Ferdy Sambo pursuing a Master’s (S2) education at Cibinong Class IIA Prison in West Java.

“The right to receive or continue education is protected by law as part of inmates’ rights to education or to continue their studies. This is not only related to Ferdy Sambo,” said Rika when contacted by Kompas.com on Tuesday (12/5/2026).

Rika explained that several inmates are also continuing their education while in prison.

“Up to now, it is still ongoing; at Tangerang Youth Prison, since the 2020s, there have been inmates continuing S1 education, with a campus inside the prison,” she said.

Meanwhile, social media reports circulated claiming that Ferdy Sambo, the former Head of the National Police’s Professional and Security Division now serving as an inmate, is participating in a theology education programme and registered as a Master’s (S2) student at Sekolah Tinggi Teologi Global Glow Indonesia (STTIGGI).

The social media post also showed a photo of Ferdy Sambo and several other inmates wearing green uniforms with officers and some people in formal attire.

There was also a photo of a journal titled “The Influence of Christian Entrepreneurs as an Effort in Fraud Risk Management” written by Ferdy Sambo.
