Directorate General of Corrections Clarifies Viral Video of Raid on Waingapu Prison Chief's Official Residence
The Directorate General of Corrections (Ditjenpas) under the Ministry of Immigration and Corrections has provided a clarification regarding a viral video depicting a raid on the official residence of the Head of the Waingapu Correctional Institution in East Sumba, East Nusa Tenggara (NTT).
The video, which has recently resurfaced on social media, is not a new event. Ditjenpas confirmed that the footage captures an incident that occurred in November 202lag and that the case has already been addressed.
Ditjenpas Spokesperson, Rika Aprianti, stated that the official, identified by the initials RB, who was serving as the Head of Waingapu Prison at the time, was sanctioned after the case was uncovered. “The video is an old video from November 2024,” she said in a written statement on Saturday, 1 August 2026.
According to Rika, RB was immediately removed from his position, underwent investigation, and was subject to administrative sanctions in accordance with applicable regulations. Currently, RB holds the status of a civil servant (ASN) at the Ditjenpas Regional Office in Jambi Province, but he has been temporarily suspended as he undergoes legal proceedings.
Rika explained that RB is currently being detained by the Jambi Regional Police in connection with alleged involvement in narcotics trafficking. “He is suspected of involvement in drug trafficking and has been processed according to the applicable regulations,” she said.
She emphasised that the video currently circulating is a re-upload accompanied by inaccurate narratives, which has the potential to mislead the public. “The commitment of Ditjenpas remains the same: there is zero tolerance for violations. If proven, strict sanctions will be applied,” she asserted.
Rika also expressed appreciation for the public’s attention to the issue but reminded the public not to hastily trust unverified information. “We hope for the public’s support in always prioritising verified information, understanding the full context of an event, and not spreading information that has the potential to cause disinformation or misunderstanding in the public sphere,” Rika added.
Previously, a three-minute video circulated widely across various social media platforms. The footage showed officers discovering a woman dressed in minimal clothing, suspected to be an unauthorised occupant of the official residence. The accompanying narrative suggested the raid was conducted following reports of alleged abuse of authority regarding the use of state-owned official housing.
