Directorate General of Corrections Asserts Bechi's Parole Follows Regulations

The Directorate General of Corrections (Ditlenpas) has asserted that Moch Subchi Azal Tsani (MSAT), also known as Bechi—a former inmate convicted of sexual violence at the Shiddiqiyyah Islamic Boarding School in Jombang—was granted parole based on statutory provisions.

Budi Waskito, Chairman of the Ditjenpas Public Communications Working Group, confirmed in Jakarta on Monday that Bechi received parole on 20 August 2025. This release was based on the Decree of the Minister of Immigration and Correctional Services Number PAS-1429.PK.05.03 of 2025, dated 15 August 2025.

Bechi was previously sentenced to seven years in prison by the Surabaya District Court following a 2022 case involving sexual violence against a student at the boarding school.

Bechi’s release has drawn significant media attention due to the receipt of remission and perceptions that the process was being obscured. Budi emphasised that the Ministry of Immigration and Correctional Services (Kemenimipas) did not provide any special treatment to Bechi during his imprisonment.

“Every inmate who meets the requirements of the integration programme is processed according to the applicable regulations,” Budi stated.
