Director General of Taxes confident that annual income tax return filings will reach 8.5 million by the end of March 2026
Jakarta – Director General of Taxes Bimo Wijayanto said he is optimistic that the filing of the Annual Tax Return (Surat Pemberitahuan Tahunan, SPT) for the 2025 tax year will reach 8.5 million by 31 March 2026. As of 08:00 WIB on 5 March 2026, the number of taxpayers who had submitted their tax obligations reached 6 million SPT.
In a media briefing at the DJP Headquarters in Jakarta on Thursday, Bimo explained that the average SPT filing was around 250,000 taxpayers per day, with a peak daily filing rate of 370,000 SPT. Taking the average as a basis, with 10 working days remaining in March 2026, he estimated there would be an additional 2.5 million SPT. “So, from the 6 million SPT currently, it will rise to 8.5 million,” he said.
To meet the target, he said the DJP would not merely wait passively for taxpayers to submit Annual Tax Returns voluntarily. The DJP will actively reach taxpayers, including opening service offices on weekdays and weekends. “We do not only expect taxpayers to file voluntarily. We also go to them,” he said.
In addition, the DJP is expanding service channels to disseminate the distribution of reporting by taxpayers, making the filing process smoother. One example is Coretax Form, which can be used to report the Annual Tax Return (PPh) for individual taxpayers with nihil status. The service has been accessible since 25 February 2026. Through this facility, taxpayers can download the electronic form from the DJP Coretax system, fill it offline, and upload the form back via the Coretax system.
Additionally, DJP plans to release Coretax Mobile (M-Pajak), which will enable taxpayers to activate Coretax DJP accounts and register an Authorization Code or Electronic Certificate more conveniently via mobile phones. He explained that the application allows taxpayers to fill tax filings offline before integrating into the online system. Coretax Mobile is targeted to be released within two weeks. “Hopefully, with this step, we can also smooth the system burden day by day,” said Bimo.
