The Director General of Population and Civil Registry (Dukcapil) at the Ministry of Home Affairs, Teguh Setyabudi, has stated that all population administration services are provided free of charge. This assurance was made to encourage citizens to promptly process and complete their population data.

“Population administration services are free, not charged at all, there is no cost whatsoever,” Teguh said during the release of Clean Population Data for the Second Semester of 2025 at the Bidakara Hotel in South Jakarta on Thursday, 12 March 2026.

Teguh urged any member of the public who is asked for payment when accessing population administration services to report the matter immediately to law enforcement authorities. According to him, such complaints can also be submitted through the Dukcapil directorate or the local regional head.

Additionally, the former Acting Governor of Jakarta appealed to citizens who have not yet registered their population data to visit their local Dukcapil office. He explained that such data would assist the government in determining development planning, statistics, and public policy decisions.

“It is very straightforward and uncomplicated. It is also already available online,” he said.

According to the Clean Population Data (DKB) for the Second Semester of 2025, Indonesia’s population reached 288,315,089 people. This figure represents an increase of 1,621,396 people compared to the first semester of 2025.

Teguh outlined that Indonesia’s population is currently dominated by males, totalling 145,498,092 people. Meanwhile, the female population was recorded at 142,816,997 people. The government will give attention to this gender ratio composition for long-term planning, particularly in areas such as reproductive health, education, and social welfare.

With the cultural and ethnic diversity of Indonesia, population composition according to the DKB for the second semester of 2025 remains dominated by Muslims, accounting for 87.15 percent or 251,257,898 people. This is followed by Christians at 7.37 percent or 21,240,765 people, Catholics at 3.07 percent or 8,861,999 people, Buddhists at 1,994,756 people or 0.69 percent, faith adherents at 99,556 people, and Confucians at 78,339 people.

According to Teguh, population data can be compared to a comprehensive map that describes the condition of the nation. Through this map, Indonesia can observe its development trajectory and prepare steps for the future. Population data is not merely a collection of constantly changing numbers, but also reflects the diversity of society. With a single national population dataset, the government can promote the realisation of a more integrated, productive, and prosperous Indonesia.

“From this map, we can read the direction of Indonesia’s journey, and at the same time prepare resources for the future,” he said.
