Director General of Immigration Urges Staff to Abolish Old Work Culture

Director General of Immigration at the Ministry of Immigration and Corrections, Hendarsam Marantoko, has asked all his staff to focus on providing services to the public and to eliminate inappropriate old work cultures. He stressed that the public service function directly engages with the community, making it highly vulnerable to complaints and criticism. This vulnerability must be addressed by strengthening the mental fortitude of officials to respond to every grievance swiftly and transparently. “The idea of ‘Immigration for the People’ was born because immigration must get closer to and eliminate the distance with the public,” said Hendarsam in a statement in Jakarta on Wednesday. According to him, the Directorate General of Immigration possesses superior human resources, but this capacity must be paired with strong integrity so the organisation can stand tall again. Hendarsam underlined that Immigration’s main orientation is to reduce the distance with the public. All forms of social jealousy or negative public perception must be answered with a change in attitude and a real commitment to service. “Our focus now is to prove that commitment, recapture public trust, and ensure that every effort by Immigration is truly felt by the people,” he stated. He urged all ranks of the Directorate General of Immigration to implement concrete action plans to enhance public service integrity. “We fully entrust the ongoing legal process to law enforcement officials. Starting this week, I ask all ranks to refocus on duties, functions, and programmes that have been launched. Public services must run optimally,” he stressed. Hendarsam acknowledged that the current crisis is one of the biggest blows for the organisation. However, he requested that this momentum be used as a space for total reflection to erase past work practices and cultures that are no longer appropriate. “Times have changed and the demands of society today have changed. There is no privilege for anyone to commit violations,” said Hendarsam.
