Director General of Immigration Urges Elimination of Inappropriate Old Work Culture
To enhance the integrity of public services, the Director General of Immigration, Hendarsam Marantoko, has urged all ranks of the Directorate General of Immigration to implement concrete steps (action plans) in providing services to the public. This was conveyed through a briefing to all Immigration officers throughout Indonesia and Immigration Attachés at Indonesian representatives, conducted in a hybrid format at the Directorate General of Immigration Hall in Jakarta on Tuesday (9/6). “We fully entrust the ongoing legal process to the law enforcement apparatus. Starting this week, I ask all ranks to refocus on their duties, functions, and programmes that have been put in place. Public services must run optimally,” he asserted. Hendarsam acknowledged that the current crisis is one of the biggest blows to the organisation. Nevertheless, he requested that this momentum be used as a space for total reflection to eliminate past work practices and culture that are not appropriate. “The times have changed, and the demands of society today have changed. There is no privilege for anyone to commit a violation,” he said. Hendarsam stressed that the public service function is in direct contact with the community, making it highly vulnerable to complaints and criticism. This vulnerability must be addressed by strengthening the mental fortitude of the apparatus to respond to every grievance quickly and transparently. “The Directorate General of Immigration has superior human resources, but this capacity must be coupled with strong integrity so that the organisation can stand tall again,” he said. Hendarsam underlined that Immigration’s main orientation is to cut the distance with the public. All forms of social jealousy or negative public perception must be answered with a change in attitude and a real commitment to service. “The idea of ‘Immigration for the People’ was born because we must get closer and eliminate the distance with the community. Our focus now is to prove that commitment, recapture public trust, and ensure that every Immigration effort is truly felt by the people,” he added.
