Director-General of Immigration Hendarsam Marantoko said the Golden Visa programme has impacted Indonesia’s economy, with realised investment reaching Rp 52.1 trillion. ‘At present we are almost at the figure of Rp 52.1 trillion,’ he said, as cited from Kompas TV’s YouTube on Thursday, 21 May 2026. In addition to investment, he noted that the programme raised non-tax revenue by around Rp 19 billion. The Golden Visa was introduced in 2024 to open a path for global talent, the diaspora, and foreign investors who wish to contribute in Indonesia. If initially targeted at about 1,000 people, the number now exceeds 1,200 recipients. He assessed that the presence of investors and global talent can also help build a positive image of Indonesia in the eyes of the world. ‘These people will become our ambassadors because of the good impression that Indonesia is friendly to those who have value for Indonesia,’ he said. According to Hendarsam, supervision is carried out from entry to arrival of foreigners in Indonesia through the Foreigners’ Monitoring Team (Tim PORA) and cooperation with the police. He cited enforcement against hundreds of criminals, including online fraud cases in Batam and West Jakarta. ‘So we want to show that first, the state is firm; our country is not a safe haven for people who are unproductive or even harmful to our nation,’ Hendarsam said. He emphasised that Indonesia is open to foreigners who provide benefits and contribute, but not to those who break the law. Quoted from the Soekarno-Hatta Class I Immigration Office’s website, Golden Visa is an immigration product granted to foreign nationals to enter and reside in Indonesia for five to ten years to support the national economy. Under this scheme, foreigners can obtain the Golden Visa by fulfilling a number of requirements, such as investing a specified amount, buying Indonesian government bonds, buying shares in publicly listed companies, placing deposits, buying property, or through central government invitation. Holders of the Golden Visa also receive several facilities, including long-term residence and easier exit and entry into Indonesia without needing to obtain a Limited Stay Permit (ITAS) from the immigration office.
