Director General of Immigration Attends DGICM in Cambodia

Director General of Immigration Hendarsam Marantoko is leading the Indonesian delegation to the 29th ASEAN Directors-General of Immigration Departments and Heads of Consular Affairs Divisions (DGICM Plus) meeting in Siem Reap, Cambodia, from 22 to 26 June 2026. Hendarsam stated that the annual forum is attended by the directors-general of immigration and heads of consular affairs of ASEAN countries, along with delegations from Australia, Japan, and China. “Yes, this afternoon I am going to Cambodia to attend the DGICM. It is like an ASEAN Plus immigration directors-general conference, also attended by Australia, Japan, and China,” Hendarsam said in Jakarta on Monday. According to him, the forum serves as a platform for immigration authority leaders to exchange information, experiences, and technology, while discussing various transnational crime issues such as human trafficking, people smuggling, and cross-border online fraud. Additionally, the forum is a means of evaluating and improving the quality of immigration services in each country. “Certainly, the issue of scamming will be one of the topics of discussion,” he remarked. He added that Indonesia’s immigration achievements are currently among the best in the ASEAN region, although efforts to enhance service quality and immigration supervision continue. Through the DGICM forum, Indonesia can also strengthen coordination, consultation, and the exchange of best practices with participating countries regarding technological developments and immigration governance. At the previous DGICM meeting in Brunei Darussalam, Indonesia affirmed its commitment to preventing people smuggling crimes in the ASEAN region. Furthermore, Indonesia introduced several immigration innovations, including the use of autogates and artificial intelligence to expedite immigration checks while strengthening supervision. In the field of immigration intelligence, Indonesia also introduced the Immigration Assisted Village programme as a preventive effort to raise public awareness and prevent people smuggling and human trafficking practices.
