Director General of Corrections Grants Nyepi Holiday Remission to 1,506 Inmates
Jakarta (ANTARA) - The Director General of Corrections (Dirjenpas) of the Ministry of Immigration and Corrections (Imipas), Mashudi, handed over special religious remission for the Nyepi holiday of the Saka New Year 1948/2026 to 1,506 correctional inmates (WBP) or prisoners throughout Indonesia.
The granting of the Nyepi Holiday 2026 Special Remission Decree was carried out symbolically at the Cipinang Class I State Detention Centre (Rutan), Jakarta, on Wednesday, to seven inmates in DKI Jakarta.
“There are 1,506 inmates who received remission, consisting of 1,502 people receiving special remission I and four receiving special remission II. Additionally, nine correctional inmates (WBP) received special sentence reduction I, and special sentence reduction II is nil,” said Mashudi.
The special remission granting ceremony for the Nyepi holiday was also attended by Member of Commission XIII of the Indonesian House of Representatives (DPR RI), Rieke Diah Pitaloka, Head of the DKI Jakarta Imipas Regional Office, Heri Azhari, and heads of detention centres and prisons in DKI Jakarta.
Mashudi stated that the special Nyepi holiday remission was carried out across all correctional facilities in Indonesia.
According to him, this year’s Nyepi holiday recipients are the highest compared to previous years. Out of a total of 271,000 inmates nationwide, there are 4,011 WBP of Hindu faith.
“The number of Nyepi remissions this year is the largest throughout Indonesia. There are four who are directly released, all in Bali. Similarly, the 1,506 recipients are mostly in Bali; in Jakarta, there are only seven, with none directly released,” said Mashudi.
He explained that the inmates received sentence reductions of two months, 1.5 months, or one month. One of the types of criminal offences committed is narcotics.
“So the detention reductions include some receiving one month, some 15 days, some 1.5 months, a maximum of two months, and the maximum release with four WBP all in Bali,” he said.
Those who received this remission, he said, are WBP who have met the requirements according to applicable regulations. It is ensured that WBP who do not undergo proper guidance, do not behave well, and are listed in register F will not receive remission rights.
Meanwhile, regarding Eid al-Fitr remission, Mashudi said the number of recipients and the handover of the decision letter will be announced on Eid al-Fitr 1447 Hijriah/2026.
“There are many (remission recipients) that will certainly be announced during Lebaran,” said Mashudi.
