The Director General of General Legal Administration (AHU), Widodo, stated that Dwi Sasetyaningtyas (DS) and her husband, recipients of the LPDP scholarship, have violated their child’s right to protection.

“This also clearly violates the child’s right to protection,” said Widodo during a press conference in Jakarta, Thursday (26/2/2026).

As reported by ANTARA, Widodo stated that DS and her husband’s child is still an Indonesian citizen.

“Based on their lineage, place of birth, and parents, they are still Indonesian citizens,” said Widodo.

“However, the parents have presented the child as if they were a foreign national,” Widodo added, highlighting the violation of the child’s rights by the Indonesian parents.

“If the child does not adhere to their place of birth and has no lineage, then their lineage is Indonesian, and the place where they are not recognised means that the child’s status is that of an Indonesian citizen,” said Widodo.

Regardless, considering the child’s young age, they have not yet reached the age where they can determine their own citizenship status.

In this context, Widodo stated that DS potentially violated her child’s rights.

“This is a lesson for all of us, especially since the Child Protection Law does not allow forcing anything upon a child’s rights, meaning that the parents are too involved in their child’s life,” he said.
