Director General Aan Suhanan officially launches 19 new Trans Batam buses

Director General Aan Suhanan of the Ministry of Transport officially launched 19 new Trans Batam buses to bolster public transport services in Batam, Riau Islands.

Aan praised Batam City Government for its continued investment in urban mass transport development.

“Batam has begun investing in public transport, from adding units and strengthening corridors to bus routes with access to facilities such as ports and airports. This is a very positive step,” he said in Batam on Tuesday.

He added that the development of Trans Batam under the Buy The Service (BTS) scheme represents collaboration between local government and transport operators to improve public services.

Meanwhile, Batam City Government’s Assistant for Economic and Development Affairs Suhar stated that the addition of 19 buses aims to rejuvenate the old fleet while expanding service coverage.

“The goals are twofold: fleet rejuvenation and expanding public transport access. Trans Batam currently serves nine corridors, with the total fleet set to reach 52 units by 2026,” he said.

According to him, the new buses will be deployed across strategic corridors: five units for the Jodoh-Batam Center corridor, six each for Piayu-Batam Center and Nongsa-Batam Center corridors, and one each for Sekupang-Batam Center and Sekupang-Tanjung Uncang corridors.
