Direct election for positions
Direct election for positions
From Media Indonesia
The direct presidential election has received popular support
because the system is believed to turn out true national leaders,
who are elected by the population.
Its implementation, however, retains the practice of mutual
backing and coalition, meaning the pursuit of Cabinet positions.
This fact obviously deviates from what is intended in the 1945
Constitution. The Constitutional Commission has been slow in
amending the Constitution in response to the latest developments,
which deprive direct elections of their benefit.
Ministers in the cabinet should be appointed by the President
without the influence of a particular party or coalition.
