REPUBLIKA.CO.ID, SEMARANG – The Semarang City Police have raised the status of a case of alleged assault and mob beating against a university student from Diponegoro University (Undip) named Arnendo (20) to the investigation stage. Arnendo is suspected to have been beaten by peers and seniors at the campus, numbering in the dozens.

‘For the status of the matter, we have raised it to the investigation stage. It is now in the investigation stage,’ said the Chief of the Semarang City Police Criminal Investigation Unit, AKBP Andika Dharma Sena, when asked by media about the progress of the case of the alleged mob beating against Arnendo at the Semarang Police Headquarters on Thursday (5/3/2026).

He added that in the case, the suspects are quite a lot, around 20 people. ‘But we will delve into regarding each of their roles later,’ he said.

Andika said that the suspects are currently still status as witnesses. According to Andika, since the case of the alleged mob beating against Arnendo was reported on 16 November 2025, the police had only questioned six witnesses. They consist of Arnendo and his family and campus friends who witnessed the incident at the scene.

‘At the moment we are still in the process of questioning witnesses. Because there are some who have already been summoned for clarification, but they are currently out of town. Therefore this also needs to be rescheduled,’ he said.

Besides the witness examinations, the Semarang City Police have obtained Arnendo’s medical report. ‘The medical report shows several scratches and bruises as well,’ said Andika.
