SEMARANG – The Student Organisation Capacity Strengthening Programme (PPK Ormawa) team of the Faculty of Social and Political Sciences Student Executive Board (BEM FISIP) at Universitas Diponegoro held a Good Practice Sharing event at the Lanjan Village Hall, Sumowono District, Semarang Regency, on Tuesday (14/7/2026).

The event aimed to strengthen coffee farmers’ capacity through direct learning from local heroes and coffee practitioners in developing quality, competitive, and sustainable coffee businesses. It was attended by the PPK Ormawa BEM FISIP supervising lecturer from Universitas Diponegoro, Damaris Bernike Bellastuti, and the Universitas Diponegoro Task Force Team member, Daud Samsudewa, as a form of support for the programme’s implementation in Lanjan Village.

The Good Practice Sharing event featured two speakers with experience and expertise in the coffee sector. The first speaker, Muji Waluyo, is a local hero of Lanjan Village and the founder and developer of ‘Sejiwa Lan Java’ coffee. Drawing on the village’s coffee potential, he successfully developed various coffee processing innovations through fermentation methods, producing distinctive flavours and increasing the added value of local coffee products.

In his presentation, Muji shared his journey in building his business, from the learning process and challenges faced, to the importance of maintaining harvest quality, fermentation innovation, and strengthening business legality as capital to expand market access. His experience showed that success in the coffee business depends not only on the harvest, but also on consistency in maintaining quality, the courage to innovate, and the ability to build business networks.

Meanwhile, Nugroho of the Banyubiru Agricultural Extension Centre (BPP) in Semarang Regency provided insights into coffee business development from cultivation to marketing. In his material, he emphasised the importance of applying Good Agricultural Practices (GAP), improving post-harvest quality, adapting to climate change, and strengthening farmer institutions so they can produce competitive products for the market. Participants also gained an understanding of strategies for building a sustainable coffee business through improved product quality, innovation, and collaboration among stakeholders.

The event proceeded interactively, with material presentations followed by discussions and question-and-answer sessions. Participants’ enthusiasm was evident in their active participation during the discussion sessions, reflecting the community’s strong interest in developing Lanjan Village’s coffee potential.

“This event was very memorable. The learning about coffee quality standards and the synergy between students, coffee farmers, and youth organisations are expected to improve the competitiveness of Lanjan Village coffee and drive the community’s economic growth,” said Muji in a press release received by Republika on Monday (20/7/2026).

Through this Good Practice Sharing event, the PPK Ormawa BEM FISIP team at Universitas Diponegoro continues to encourage collaboration between higher education institutions, government, businesses, and the community in developing the coffee potential of Lanjan Village. This synergy is expected to strengthen farmers’ capacity, improve the quality and added value of coffee products, and support the realisation of sustainable community empowerment through the Empowered Coffee Movement Programme.
