Diponegoro University student sentenced to one year in prison for producing pornographic content using AI deepfakes
Semarang (ANTARA) – A Diponegoro University (Undip) Semarang student, Chiko Raditya Agung Putra, was sentenced to one year in prison in a case involving the production of pornographic content using artificial intelligence, ‘deepfake’. The verdict read by Chief Judge Agung Iriawan at Semarang District Court on Thursday was heavier than the prosecutor’s demand of seven months in prison. ‘The defendant is proven to have violated Article 407(1) of Law No. 1 of 2023 on the Criminal Code,’ he said. In addition to the custodial sentence, the judge also imposed a Rp2 billion fine, which if not paid would be replaced by 15 days of detention. In his assessment, the judge considered that the defendant’s acts of producing 1,100 photo and video files categorized as pornography had disturbed the public. The obscene content edited by the defendant could be accessed by the public and the digital footprints remain to this day. The faces in the edited photos and videos belonged to alumni of SMAN 11 in Semarang. Moreover, the acts of editing these photos and videos caused psychological trauma to the victims. Regarding the verdict, both the prosecution and the defendant said they would reflect on it.
