Diponegoro University Law Student Who Edited Explicit Photos with AI Sentenced to One Year in Prison
Chiko Radityatama Agung Putra, a student of the Faculty of Law at Diponegoro University (Undip), was sentenced to one year in prison. He was found guilty in a case involving the production of pornography content using artificial intelligence (AI). The verdict, read by Chief Judge Agung Iriawan during a hearing at Semarang District Court, was heavier than the prosecutors’ demand. The prosecutor previously sought a seven-month prison term for Chiko.
“Declares the defendant proven to have violated Article 407(1) of Law Number 1 of 2023 concerning the Criminal Code,” said Agung Iriawan as quoted by Antara, Thursday (5 March 2026). The judge also imposed a Rp 2 billion fine on Chiko, to be replaced by 15 days of confinement. In his consideration, the judge assessed that the defendant’s act of producing 1,100 files of photos and videos categorized as pornography had distressed the public. The obscene content resulting from the edits, according to the judge, could be accessed by the public and the digital traces remain to this day. The faces in the photos and videos edited by the defendant were of alumni of SMAN 11 in Semarang City. Moreover, the defendant’s act of editing the photos and the videos caused psychological trauma to the victims. Both the public prosecutor and the defendant stated their intention to appeal.
