Diponegoro Road Redevelopment in Singaraja Accelerated at Night, Completion Set for 17 December
Work on the redevelopment of the Jalan Diponegoro area in Singaraja, Buleleng, is being heavily accelerated during the night to minimise disruption to traders’ activities. The Buleleng Regency Government aims to complete the 250-metre redevelopment by 17 December 2026.
The Head of the Buleleng Public Works and Spatial Planning Department (PUTR), I Putu Adiptha Ekaputra, stated that heavy works are intentionally carried out at night. This pattern has been implemented so that traders can continue their activities while the project is underway.
“We are doing more of the heavy work at night,” said Adiptha on Tuesday (8/9/2026).
According to him, the work is being conducted using a system that allows trading activities to persist. For instance, old drainage channels are dismantled at night. Once the work is finished, access is restored so that traders can operate as usual the following morning.
The area’s redevelopment includes the dismantling of old drains and the installation of precast U-Ditch concrete, which will then be covered with andesite stone. The parking area, which previously used paving, will also be dismantled and redesigned.
Furthermore, the Buleleng Regency Government will install pedestrian lamps, street lighting (PJU), and provide benches to make the area more comfortable. Efforts will also be made to bury cables on the eastern side of the area to ensure a tidier appearance.
Adiptha noted that the condition of Jalan Diponegoro has been poorly organised, particularly at night when the area tends to be dark. Sanitation issues are also a primary focus of the redevelopment.
While dismantling the old drains, the team discovered significant amounts of waste and market refuse accumulated within the gutters. This issue is being addressed by replacing the old channels with precast U-Ditch systems.
“The gutters have essentially been used as rubbish bins. After we dismantled them, they were full of trash, plastic, and various market waste,” he said.
The redevelopment is also aimed at revitalising the area at night. Traders will eventually begin occupying the area around 6:00 PM WITA under a more orderly and organised concept.
To support the area’s management, four-wheeled vehicles will be directed to park at Pasar Carisari, while motorcycle parking will be located on the western side.
The redevelopment project covers an area of approximately 250 metres. The work is targeted for completion by 17 December 2026.
In terms of budget, the redevelopment has an initial ceiling of approximately Rp 5 billion. Following an efficiency process, the budget value has been adjusted to around Rp 4.7 billion, sourced from the Special Financial Assistance (BKK) from the Denpasar City Government.
