Diplomat: NATO Will Continue to Pose a Security Threat to Russia

Moscow (ANTARA) - Russia predicts that the North Atlantic Treaty Organization (NATO) will continue to pose a threat to Russian security across various regions, said Vladislav Maslennikov, Director of the European Affairs Department of the Russian Foreign Ministry.

“NATO will continue to prioritise a confrontational agenda against Russia and practically poses a threat to our security in various geographical areas and operational environments,” Maslennikov told RIA Novosti.

Regarding the NATO Summit scheduled to be held on 7-8 July 2026 in Ankara, Türkiye, Maslennikov noted that the summit’s focus is expected to centre on strengthening trans-Atlantic ties and implementing decisions from the 2025 NATO Summit in The Hague, Netherlands. These decisions include increasing military spending (to 5 per cent of GDP by 2035), expanding defence industry capacity, and providing assistance to Ukraine.

“Russia’s issues will undoubtedly be discussed within the context of these latest points. It is difficult to say how much progress NATO will achieve in this area,” the diplomat added.
