Diploma Burned by Father Over Child Marriage, Education Office Prepares Replacement Certificate
The West Lombok Education and Culture Office (Disdikbud) is ready to replace the diploma of a child burned by her father because he was disappointed she married early in Sekotong District. Head of West Lombok Disdikbud, Lalu Najamuddin, said he has asked the school where the student studied to issue a replacement certificate (suket).
‘I have asked the school to make a replacement certificate for the diploma. So she can register for school again later,’ said Najamuddin on Thursday (26/6/2026).
However, Najamuddin stated that the issuance of the certificate must be preceded by a loss report or a statement from the police as one of the administrative requirements.
‘The diploma has been burned, what else can be done, it is impossible to return it. That is why we are making a replacement certificate, on the condition that there is a police report,’ he explained.
Najamuddin confirmed that the West Lombok Disdikbud, together with the Social Service, Women’s Protection and Child Protection (Dinsos PPA), will continue to assist the child so she can continue her education. He stressed that there is no reason for a child to drop out of school even if they have married early.
‘Yesterday I coordinated with the Social Service. There will still be assistance. No child should drop out of school,’ he asserted.
Previously, a video of a father in Sekotong District, West Lombok Regency, West Nusa Tenggara (NTB), burning his child’s diploma and school uniform went viral on social media. The act was triggered by the parents’ disappointment because their daughter, who was still in the 2nd grade of Junior High School (SMP), married at an early age.
In the circulating video, the man appeared to be burning various personal items belonging to his child. The items burned included an Elementary School (SD) diploma, school uniform, notebooks, and shoes.
While recording the flames consuming the items, the man expressed his disappointment at feeling he had failed to educate his child.
‘The disappointment of a parent who failed to educate their child. I hope this is not experienced by friends who have daughters still in school. Let me be the only one who feels it,’ said the man in the video, seen by detikBali on Wednesday (17/6/2026).
