Dino Patti Djalal's Statement Regarding Gibran's Diploma Criticised
The Secretary General of GibranKu, Pangeran Mangkubumi, has assessed that Dino Patti Djalal’s statements regarding the issue of Vice President Gibrability Rakabuming Raka’s diploma are too tendentious. He expressed regret that Gibran’s courage in defending his personal integrity is being linked to the measure of one’s ability to defend the Unitary State of the Republic of Indonesia (NKRI).
According to Pangeran, the arguments presented by Dino Patti Djalal, who previously served as Deputy Foreign Minister during the era of President Susilo Bambang Yudhoyono (SBY), are viewed as being constructed from a less than objective perspective. He believes the matter should be viewed through a rational and proportional legal framework. As a legal practitioner, Pangeran explained that in the principle of a state governed by law, an accusation does not automatically possess legal force simply because it is delivered with harsh statements or receives significant attention on social media.
He emphasised that issues regarding the validity of documents, the fulfilment of candidacy requirements, or alleged violations during election stages should not be resolved through personal courage or confrontation. According to him, assessments must be based on facts, available evidence, the authority of relevant institutions, applicable legal stages, and decisions from institutions that possess the actual authority to determine such matters.
“We regret Mr Dino’s statement, which we consider too tendentious. The public must be enlightened with the question: what is truly the measure of integrity in a state governed by law? This question is important, because constitutional democracy is not built on the premise that whoever is the bravest in facing the public arena is the party that is most correct,” said Pangeran, as quoted on Thursday (17/9).
Pangeran further added that once a matter has entered the legal pathway, the principle that should serve as the primary footing is due process of law. Thus, the resolution does not need to be directed towards becoming an open battle or a battle of rhetoric before the public.
On the other hand, Pangeran reminded that President Prabowo Subianto had chosen Gibran from the beginning to accompany him as Vice President. Therefore, according to Pangeran, it is difficult to imagine that such a decision was based solely on electoral interests without considering the various administrative and constitutional provisions that must be met.
“Logically, it is impossible for the president at that time to simply pick a deputy to accompany him without considering administrative and constitutional requirements,” added Pangeran.
Despite differing views on the issue, Pangeran continues to respect Dino Patti Djalal as a figure using his right to express an opinion. According to him, the freedom to express views is part of the rights guaranteed by the constitution.
Issues regarding the alleged fake diploma of Jokowi and irregularities in the educational history of Vice President Gibran Rakabuming Raka will be resolved if the documents are presented. Roy Suryo has questioned several irregularities in Vice President Gibran’s educational history, bringing a series of evidence from Gibran’s educational history that is considered full of errors.
According to Roy, 16 points of documents excluded by the KPU (General Elections Commission) are actually important aspects that the public must know. According to the Golkar politician, the issuance of KPU Regulations (PKPU) should be carried out after consultation with the DPR (House of Representatives) and the government, specifically through working meetings in Commission II. He believes that such a policy could instead create new unrest among the public, asserting that diploma documents are public information required by law.
