Dino Patti Djalal Urges Trump to Halt Attacks on Iran
Jakarta (ANTARA) — Dino Patti Djalal, founder of the Foreign Policy Community of Indonesia (FPCI), has urged US President Donald Trump to end war provocations and halt attacks on Iran, whilst ceasing to be manipulated by Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu.
“End war provocations…end attacks on Iran. Stop being manipulated by Prime Minister Netanyahu to wage war. Be serious in championing Palestinian independence and sovereignty,” said Dino in a video message monitored in Jakarta on Friday.
The former Indonesian deputy foreign minister appreciated Trump’s stated intention to become America’s President of Peace, as outlined in the US National Security Strategy.
He also welcomed Trump’s initiative to create a 20-point plan to initiate a ceasefire in Gaza, Palestine, which is expected to end the killings carried out by Israel in Gaza, although, according to him, the Peace Board (BoP) is problematic.
However, according to the former Indonesian ambassador to the US, Trump’s recent actions do not align with his vision as a peace president.
He expressed concern about the emergence of macho American nationalism that believes it is always right, enjoys playing dangerous politics, exhibits imperialist tendencies, readily uses military force unwisely, and lacks moral compass.
“This has caused America to become an aggressor nation in several conflicts. We firmly reject and condemn the recent US and Israeli military attacks on Iran, which killed their leader, Ayatollah Khamenei,” said Dino.
Dino stated that the US and Israeli military strikes have caused Iran to respond militarily, as any nation would when attacked, and such attacks have placed other nations at risk.
“Instability and new conflicts now loom over the Middle East. This is all your responsibility, Mr President, and Israel’s. Instead of spreading peace, you are spreading war,” Dino asserted.
Dino urged Trump to focus on peace, reform the Peace Board, and realise a two-state solution to address the Israeli-Palestinian conflict, as well as help end the Russia-Ukraine war.
Additionally, Dino hoped that Trump would build a constructive partnership with China based on mutual respect, which he said could benefit the entire world, including the Indo-Pacific region.
He also expressed his hope that Trump can help the international community address climate change and create conditions that allow all nations in the world to grow together in peace and prosperity.
“Respect the UN Charter, which is still considered one of America’s greatest contributions to world peace, and comply with international law. Build bridges, not divisions,” said Dino, hoping that Trump can demonstrate that the US is a good and dignified nation.
