Former Deputy Foreign Minister Dino Patti Djalal has expressed regret that President Prabowo Subianto did not raise the two-state solution or Palestinian independence during his address before US President Donald Trump.

According to Dino, Saudi Arabia, Qatar, Egypt, Turkey, Pakistan and Morocco all mentioned the two-state solution and Palestinian statehood in their speeches at the inaugural Board of Peace summit in Washington DC, United States.

"I also note with regret that President Prabowo's speech at the Board of Peace summit did not mention the Two-State Solution or Palestinian Statehood," Dino said in a video posted on his X account, @dinopattidjalal, on Saturday, 21 February 2026.

Dino granted permission for media to quote his remarks on the Board of Peace summit.

According to Dino, the two-state solution is a fundamental Indonesian principle on the Palestine issue. He argued that Donald Trump needed to hear Indonesia's firm position directly from President Prabowo.

Furthermore, Dino said the two-state solution message was a key mandate from Islamic mass organisations and foreign policy organisations when they met with the President at the State Palace. "The mandate was that Indonesia's membership of the Board of Peace must be dedicated to achieving Palestinian independence," said the chairman and founder of the Foreign Policy Community of Indonesia (FPCI).

However, Dino did not wish to prejudge the situation, as Prabowo's omission of the two-state solution and Palestinian independence may have been due to time constraints on his speech.

Dino reminded that the two-state solution and Palestinian independence must always serve as the primary reference point in speeches by the President and Foreign Minister at all forums concerning Palestine, particularly at Board of Peace meetings. "We do not want the BoP to be misused as a platform for silencing Palestinian aspirations, as that possibility is quite significant," he said.

In his speech at the Board of Peace summit, Prabowo indeed did not touch upon the two-state solution or Palestinian independence. He instead addressed peace and the vision and mission of the Board of Peace charter. Prabowo also highlighted the ceasefire and the deployment of 8,000 Indonesian troops to Gaza.

Prabowo only raised the two-state solution during a press conference with media after his speech. At the conference, he claimed that conditions in the Gaza Strip, Palestine, had improved.

Prabowo said the current situation in Gaza was better compared to recent years. He expressed confidence that Gaza residents were receiving adequate basic necessities.

The Gerindra party chairman said peace efforts in the Gaza Strip would face further challenges ahead, including the possibility of parties unwilling to cooperate for peace in Gaza.

According to Prabowo, Indonesia is determined to achieve success through the Board of Peace for the Palestinian people. "We are certainly committed; earlier, several Muslim countries all affirmed our commitment to truly achieving lasting peace," he said.

Prabowo then stated that the two-state solution, which Indonesia supports, must be realised. "For us, the real, the only long-lasting solution is a two-state solution," Prabowo said.
