Dinkes Sumsel Records 1,426 Dengue Cases Up to May 2026
Palembang (ANTARA) - South Sumatra Health Department (Dinkes Sumsel) has recorded 1,426 dengue fever (DBD) cases and 11 deaths in the province from January to 21 May 2026.
Head of Disease Prevention and Control (P2P) at Dinkes Sumsel, Ira Primadesa Ogatiyah, stated on Sunday in Palembang that the highest number of cases occurred in January with 444, followed by a steady decline in subsequent months.
“The peak DBD cases were in January with 444, followed by 402 in February, 305 in March, 239 in April, and 36 in May up to 21 May. The death toll stands at 11,” she said.
She explained that Palembang City reported the highest number of cases at 413 with one death, followed by Muara Enim Regency with 281 cases and two deaths, Ogan Ilir Regency with 141 cases and one death, and Lubuklinggau City with 109 cases and two deaths.
Other areas included Musi Rawas Utara (Muratara) Regency with 35 cases, Musi Rawas (Mura) Regency with 34, Prabumulih City with 14, OKU Regency with 11, Pagar Alam City with 5 cases and one death, Empat Lawang Regency with 4, and OKU Selatan Regency with 1.
This year’s DBD cases have decreased compared to the same period in previous years. In 2025, South Sumatra recorded 2,084 cases, down from 4,430 in 2024.
“The death toll in 2024 was 37, falling to 20 in 2025,” she added.
Additionally, the intensified dengue vaccination programme launched late last year has contributed to reducing cases.
Dinkes Sumsel urges the public to remain vigilant by implementing the 3M Plus movement—emptying, covering, and recycling potential mosquito breeding sites—to prevent a rise in DBD cases during the upcoming rainy season.
