Jakarta (ANTARA) - Indonesian Islamic intellectual Din Syamsuddin has called on Muslims in the country to unite as the key to achieving world peace amid rising global conflicts, such as the US-Israel war with Iran. “Once again, we on behalf of Islamic organisations also call for the unity of Muslims, both government and society,” said Din Syamsuddin at a meeting between several Islamic figures in the country and Iran’s Ambassador to Indonesia, Mohammad Boroujerdi, in Jakarta on Friday. He also reminded Muslims not to be provoked by divisive efforts that exploit differences, such as between Sunni and Shia. He stressed that fellow Muslims should always foster brotherhood in faith and Islamic brotherhood. “This is not the time to pit our differences against each other, whether between Sunni and Shia, or Arab and Persian. Because we are fellow Muslims taught by our religion to foster al-ukhuwwah al-imaniyyah or al-ukhuwwah al-islamiyyah,” he stated. Furthermore, Din conveyed solidarity to the Iranian people who are facing the conflict. He hoped the situation would soon pass and become a momentum for the revival of Islamic civilisation. “We hope the calamity that has occurred and befallen the Iranian people will soon pass. As fellow Muslims, what we feel is also a calamity that befalls us; this will soon pass and (we hope) the Iranian nation, the Muslims in Iran, will rise,” he said. Additionally, Din encouraged strengthening cooperation between Indonesia and Iran, both through civil society organisations and educational institutions. Din emphasised that such cooperation must be directed towards mutual progress and global peace. He also invited all nations that love peace and justice to jointly build a better future for human civilisation.
