Dilapidated Building: Roof of SDN Karanganyar 3 Sragen Collapses
The roof of a classroom building at SDN Karanganyar 3 in Sambungmacan, Sragen Regency, collapsed on Monday, 24 August 2026. The dilapidated school building, whose roof caved in, was last constructed in 2013.
Information obtained by Media Indonesia indicates that the roof collapse, which produced a loud noise in the early hours of Monday, was heard by Parinem, a resident living near the school. The commotion from within the school was subsequently reported to the Head of SDN Karanganyar 3, Sri Sunarni, who then notified the police for investigation purposes.
Sambungmacan Police Chief AKP Warseno stated that the school management had long since vacated the classroom whose roof collapsed. “The head teacher explained that the classroom building whose roof collapsed had been vacated since the start of teaching and learning activities in early January 2026,” said AKP Warseno.
This preventive measure was taken because the physical condition of the building had become dilapidated with age. The deteriorating condition, which posed a safety risk to students, had already been reported to the Sragen Education and Culture Office (Disdikbud) and had been inspected.
Separately, Head of Disdikbud Sragen, Purwanti, said that her office was aware of the report regarding the hazardous condition of the classroom and had included it on the priority list for revitalisation. “We have reviewed the report and placed it on the priority agenda for rehabilitation and revitalisation. The cost estimate has been completed for four rooms, and we are just waiting for implementation on the ground,” Purwanti added.
She further explained that the cost estimate for the revitalisation of SDN 3 Sambungmacan amounts to Rp345,112,323 for four classrooms. The work was scheduled to commence on Wednesday, 26 August.
