Digitalisation Becomes Strategy for Dental Clinics to Drive Business Growth

Competition in dental healthcare services is driving industry players to transform their business models from conventional clinics to technology-based digital services. Digitalisation is considered the primary strategy to expand the patient base, improve operational efficiency, and address the low rate of routine visits to dentists among the public.

This transformation is exemplified by FDC Dental Clinic, which has developed a digital app-based ecosystem for dental healthcare services with over 1.5 million users in Indonesia.

Founder and CEO of FDC, Ita Lestari, stated that technology development is aimed at overcoming the main barriers faced by the public in accessing dental services, from fear, perceptions of high costs, to service processes deemed time-consuming.

According to Ita, this digital transformation has shifted the company’s position from a conventional dental clinic to a technology-based company. “Previously, we were a dental clinic with an IT team. Now, we have transformed into a technology company focused on dental healthcare services,” said Ita in a press release on Saturday (10/5/2026).

FDC’s Chief Technology Officer, M. Reza Avesena, explained that app development was carried out in line with increasing patient service needs. Currently, FDC handles more than 60,000 reservations per month, or an average of over 2,000 patients per day. Before digitalisation was implemented, manual reservations via messages or chats often led to long queues despite being handled in multiple customer service shifts.

One of FDC’s dentists, Irvanda Mulyaningsih, said that digitalisation has reduced the reservation process, which previously took an average of about 30 minutes, to just around 15-20 seconds.

“Customers can select the nearest clinic branch, choose schedules and dentists, and obtain service information and cost estimates directly via their mobile phones.”

Amid the still low routine dental visits among the public, the utilisation of technology is seen as opening opportunities to expand access to dental healthcare services nationwide.

Based on data from the Indonesian Ministry of Health and the Indonesia Health Survey, public awareness for routine dental check-ups remains relatively low compared to the population size.
