Digital Transformation Boosts BSI Gold Business, Makassar Region Manages 163kg
PT Bank Syariah Indonesia (Persero) Tbk (BSI) has recorded significant growth in its gold business since the launch of its bullion banking service on 26 February 2025. As of May 2026, the bank’s total gold assets under management have reached 22.5 tonnes, reflecting growing public confidence in Indonesia’s gold banking services.
This was disclosed by Sukma Dwie Priardi, Regional CEO of BSI Region X Makassar, during a media gathering at BSI’s UMKM Center on Friday, 22 May 2026.
Sukma explained that BSI’s gold business growth is driven by increased public literacy in Sharia-compliant gold investments and the convenience of digital access via the BYOND by BSI superapp. Through the app, customers can purchase gold starting from Rp50,000 securely and in real-time, including transferring gold in grams.
“Public interest in precious metal gold continues to rise alongside our educational efforts on bullion banking and digital service convenience,” Sukma said.
He added that the bullion banking service is a strategic government initiative to strengthen national gold management. The program was officially launched by President Prabowo Subianto after BSI obtained a bullion business permit from the Financial Services Authority (OJK).
Specifically in BSI Region X Makassar, which covers Sulawesi, Maluku, and Papua, total gold assets under management have reached 163 kilograms. In Makassar city alone, the figure stands at 48 kilograms, predominantly held by young and millennial customers.
According to Sukma, this trend indicates growing youth awareness of safe and Sharia-compliant gold investments.
