Digital SIM Legally Equivalent to Physical Version – How to Obtain

JAKARTA, KOMPAS.com - The Indonesian National Police’s Traffic Corps (Korlantas) has confirmed that digital SIMs via the Digital Korlantas app hold equal legal validity to physical ones.

This was stated by Korlantas’ Director of Registration and Identification (Dirregident), Brigadier General Wibowo, recently.

‘Digital SIM has the same legal force as electronic or physical SIM cards,’ he said.

Korlantas is also working to align the understanding among lower-ranking personnel so that officers on the ground accept digital SIMs when presented by drivers.

Owners of physical SIMs can create the digital version by downloading the Digital Korlantas app from the App Store for iOS or Play Store for Android.

After downloading, users simply follow a brief registration process, including personal data verification to confirm account validity.

‘If you’ve installed it, select SIM, enter your SIM number, then wait for verification,’ Wibowo said.

Verification occurs automatically via Korlantas’ database system. If the identity matches, the digital document activates immediately and is stored in the user’s app profile.
