Digital Minister says local governments need to get involved to strengthen Tunas Regulation up to schools
Jakarta (ANTARA) - Minister of Communication and Digital Affairs Meutya Hafid stated that local governments need to get involved in strengthening the implementation of PP Tunas as a regulation that protects children in the digital space, so that its coverage can reach the closest environments to children, including in schools. She said that rules issued by local governments in supporting the implementation of PP Tunas would make it easier for the public to recognise and understand the importance of managing access to digital platforms for children. “So, the implementation of PP Tunas will be easier if there are indeed rules, for example, restricting gadgets in schools. So that was in the context of Education Day,” said Meutya at the Ministry of Communication and Digital Affairs office, Central Jakarta, on Thursday. With restrictions on gadget access while children are at school, children can be helped not to be too dependent on their gadgets in daily life. This approach can also make children in educational settings more focused on following the learning process directly. Meutya described the implementation of PP Tunas as one of the proofs that the government is present to ensure that the nation’s next generation is protected in the digital space under the leadership of President Prabowo Subianto. This regulation will take effect starting 28 March 2026, targeting initial implementation against eight platforms deemed high-risk by the government, namely X, Bigo Live, Threads, Facebook, Instagram, TikTok, YouTube, and Roblox. In the future, the Government through the Ministry of Komdigi plans to expand the implementation of PP Tunas by giving a deadline for other platforms to complete their self-assessment obligations until 6 June 2026.
