Jakarta (ANTARA) - Minister of Communication and Digital Affairs (Menkomdigi) Meutya Hafid stated that Meta and Google need to fulfil the completeness of documents as a follow-up to the examination summons related to the Government Regulation on the Governance of Electronic System Operators in Child Protection (PP Tunas). Meeting before a briefing at the Presidential Palace in Jakarta on Wednesday, Menkomdigi Meutya Hafid explained that her office had conducted examinations of Meta and Google regarding alleged violations of Government Regulation Number 17 of 2025 on the Governance of Electronic System Operators in Child Protection (PP Tunas) on Monday (6/4) and Tuesday (7/4). “This enters the three-day period for document completion,” said the Minister. Meutya conveyed that regarding this matter, her office is still awaiting good news regarding the compliance of the two major platforms with the provisions in PP Tunas. Previously, the Director General of Digital Space Supervision at the Ministry of Communication and Digital Affairs, Alexander Sabar, explained that Meta and Google underwent examinations at the Ministry’s office on Monday and Tuesday respectively. During the examination process, the two companies were questioned with 29 questions to delve into the alleged violations of the applicable regulations in Indonesia. Meutya said that the two tech giants violated provisions from Ministerial Regulation No. 9 of 2026, which is the implementing regulation of PP Tunas. Meta itself is the parent company of digital platforms including Threads, Facebook, and Instagram. Meanwhile, Google is the parent company of the YouTube platform. Both digital platforms are categorised under Ministerial Regulation No. 9 of 2026 as high-risk platforms and are required to restrict children’s access to their services.
