Jakarta (ANTARA) - Minister of Communication and Digital (Menkomdigi) Meutya Hafid has emphasised to the younger generation the need to build digital awareness from an early age so that in the future they can utilise technology wisely, safely, and responsibly. She conveyed this message during a dialogue with students at Madrasah Tsanawiyah Hidayatul Athfal Rebila in Lombok, after hearing stories from the students about their digital habits, with an average of more than three hours per day spent in the digital space. “The strongest is self-awareness, not just supervision. Once you understand that something harms your future, you must stop it yourself. That is the true power,” said Meutya in a statement received and confirmed on Wednesday. Therefore, it is important to form awareness from an early stage so that good digital habits can be created, making Indonesia’s digital space a productive, safe, and comfortable one. Furthermore, Meutya explained that to support the creation of a safe digital space for children, the government has introduced a policy now known as PP Tunas or Government Regulation No. 17 of 2025 on the Governance of Electronic System Operators in Child Protection. In addition, regulations on restricting access to digital platforms in Indonesia also refer to other countries that have previously taken similar policies. “This is a firm protective step so that Indonesian children can grow more prepared and capable of competing in the digital era,” said Meutya. This dialogue strengthens the Ministry of Communication and Digital’s commitment that digital literacy must be built through children’s direct awareness and understanding. This step is expected to shape Indonesia’s young generation to be ready to become smart and resilient digital-era leaders.
