Digital Minister: 19 Countries Await Success of PP Tunas as Reference
Jakarta (ANTARA) - Minister of Communication and Digital (Menkomdigi) Meutya Hafid stated that the success of implementing PP Tunas in Indonesia is being awaited by 19 other countries so that it can be used as a reference for regulations on restricting children’s access to social media.
“There are approximately 19 other countries waiting for the implementation in Indonesia to then be applied in their respective countries,” said Meutya in a brief interview at the Ministry of Communication and Digital office, Jakarta, on Monday.
Meutya mentioned that some examples of countries that have expressed interest in the implementation of PP Tunas include France, Singapore, Malaysia, and the European Union.
The success of implementing PP Tunas in regulating digital platforms to limit children’s access to the digital space according to age readiness is intriguing because Indonesia is the first country with the largest child population to take this step.
“Once again, this movement is already global and certainly compliance here will impact not only children in Indonesia, but children around the world,” said Meutya.
Previously, PP Tunas, which is Government Regulation Number 17 of 2025 on the Protection and Governance of Electronic System Operators in Child Protection, will be enforced starting 28 March 2026 in Indonesia.
The regulation covers restrictions on children’s access to digital platforms such as Instagram, Facebook, Threads, X, Bigo Live, YouTube, TikTok, and Roblox.
Owners of digital platforms that as of Thursday (9/4) at 17.50 WIB have fully complied with PP Tunas include Meta (Threads, Instagram, Facebook), X, and Bigo Live.
Platforms TikTok and Roblox are assessed to have partially complied with the provisions in PP Tunas. Google, as the owner of the YouTube platform, is assessed to have not shown good faith in complying with the regulation.
