Digital Literacy Schools Pledge to Integrate Digital Skills into Learning Activities

The Ministry of Communication and Digital Affairs (Kemkomdigi), together with schools, has initiated a Digital Literacy School commitment to support the implementation of the Child Protection in the Digital Space Government Regulation (PP Tunas) by integrating digital literacy pillars into teaching and learning activities. Head of the Human Resources Development Agency at Kemkomdigi, Bonifasius Wahyu Pudjianto, stated that the commitment aims to build a safe, healthy, and productive digital culture for children within the school environment. “The approach is not intended to add new subjects, but rather to integrate the pillars of digital literacy into learning activities, school culture, and the character building of students,” Pudjianto said in Jakarta on Tuesday. The programme also includes education for parents through materials on guiding internet use at home, ensuring continuity between school and family. Kemkomdigi is also collaborating with digital platforms, communities, and various ministries and institutions to provide digital literacy relevant to children’s needs. By integrating digital literacy activities into the learning process and character building, schools have an easy-to-apply reference without adding to the existing curriculum burden. The commitment was marked by a Joint Declaration of Digital Literacy Schools involving educators and student representatives from eight schools in commemoration of National Children’s Day. In the declaration, these schools affirmed their commitment to supporting the implementation of the PP Tunas by becoming capable, safe, ethical, and responsible digital citizens. They also expressed readiness to protect personal data, reject cyberbullying, and make child protection in the digital space a shared responsibility among schools, families, communities, the government, and electronic system providers.
