The transformation of digital learning enables broader access to education, unconstrained by time or location. Students can learn from various sources, including online platforms, e-books, interactive videos, and artificial intelligence.

On the other hand, digital transformation provides convenience for teachers who can use various applications to manage classes, assign tasks, and analyse student progress, making education more efficient.

This is reflected in several lecturers from the Electrical Engineering Study Program at Mercu Buana University (UMB) by implementing one of the pillars of the Tri Dharma of Higher Education through community service (PkM) activities with the theme of digital transformation of classrooms through the concept of Smart Classroom at SMK YMIK Joglo, West Jakarta.

In this activity, the lecturers presented various topics focusing on the use of modern technology to support a more interactive, effective, and integrated teaching and learning process.

Akhmad Wahyu Dani and Yuliza, for example, presented a topic on the implementation of a Smart Classroom based on Smart TV, classroom cameras, and Internet of Things (IoT)-based learning modules.

“We designed this technology to create a more modern, measurable learning atmosphere and support better interaction between teachers and students,” said Akhmad Wahyu Dani, one of the lecturers, on Friday (15/5/2026).

In another session, Freddy Artadima Silaban and Ahmad Firdausi discussed the design of a Smart Classroom based on databases and the web.

Through this system, teachers and students can access learning materials, attendance, and evaluations online through various devices, making the learning process more flexible and efficient.

Meanwhile, M Hafizd Ibnu Hajar and Ketty Siti Salamah presented material on the application of IoT, smart sensors, and classroom automation to support the digital learning transformation.

“We hope that the use of this technology can increase the effectiveness of learning and make it easier for teachers to monitor classroom conditions in real time,” he said.

He explained that all the topics raised in this PkM reflect UMB’s concern for the needs of technological transformation in vocational schools, especially in West Jakarta. “SMK YMIK Joglo was chosen as a partner because of the school’s need to modernise its learning system and educational infrastructure,” said Akhmad.

He added that this activity not only focuses on delivering material but also provides demonstrations and direct practice in using Smart Classroom technology.

Teachers and students of SMK YMIK Joglo had the opportunity to see the implementation of integrated Smart TV, simple IoT modules, and a web-based class management system.

“Through this PkM activity, UMB hopes that the implementation of the Smart Classroom at SMK YMIK Joglo can continue to develop and become an inspiration for other schools in facing the era of digital education,” he concluded. (H-2)

The service material is not only in the form of concepts and theories but also direct practice so that participants can understand and apply the knowledge provided in their daily lives.

This FGD was attended by representatives from 56 universities across Indonesia who engaged in a direct dialogue with industry players from Malaysia.

The involvement of students through a collaborative approach is becoming increasingly important in the face of various development challenges and social inequalities.

The first session of the training focused on digital financial literacy, emphasising the importance of transparency, accountability, and efficiency in the management of technology-based finances.

This PKM program not only enriches learning methods but also addresses the school’s strategic challenges, namely the lack of digital promotion.

Mercu Buana University officially introduced its new slogan, Education to Improve Quality of Life, at the 2025/2026 graduation ceremony as a direction for educational transformation.
