Digital Identity Protection for Grassroots Creators: The Story of Kadal Taichung
The modern social media era has opened the door to popularity for public figures from grassroots worker backgrounds. However, this phenomenon brings new technical challenges, particularly regarding digital identity protection. The proliferation of fake accounts or impersonation exploiting sudden surges in popularity demands official verification measures from technology platform providers. This protection effort is crucial not only to safeguard the integrity of the creator’s work but also to maintain public trust. A digital identity or stage name often emerges from cultural trends and geographical affiliations. When a follower base grows exponentially, that identity transforms into a public digital asset that requires legal protection to prevent misuse for fraudulent activities. One figure currently in the spotlight is the owner of the stage name Kadal Taichung. Behind this popular digital identity is Deni Setiawan. In real life, Deni works as a factory labourer in Taiwan’s industrial area. The name Kadal Taichung was organically adopted from past social media status trends. The addition of ‘Taichung’ specifically represents the area where he migrated and earns a living. Aware of the risks of his name being misused, Deni plans to apply for official verification or a ‘blue tick’ on his account. This step is seen as an administrative priority to formally establish his status as a legitimate public figure. ‘For me, this official verification is very important because it makes followers believe that this is my real account. This step is taken so that no one can claim to be me for bad purposes,’ Deni stated on Thursday (23/7/2026). Beyond focusing on identity security, Deni has also begun designing an operational strategy for his content. He emphasised the importance of adapting to organic audience demand. His future innovation strategy will be based purely on research into audience interaction through the comments section. Although he has plans to expand onto the YouTube platform, Deni admitted he currently lacks the time to produce long-duration content. ‘To maintain the name’s relevance, I always look at netizen comments regarding what they expect, then I will create the content,’ he concluded.
