Digital gas pumps
JAKARTA (JP): The Indonesian Consumers Foundation (YLKI) has urged state-owned oil company Pertamina to take action against gas stations which operate gas pumps without digital meters.
Tini Hadad, chairwoman of the foundation, said in a statement that action was needed as many gas stations still used nondigital machines, even though Pertamina and the City Metrology Office had announced a July 1 deadline for all gas stations in both Jakarta and West Java to use digital meter systems.
Both Pertamina and the metrology office have urged gas station owners to replace their nondigital machines with digital ones, otherwise they will be sanctioned if they refuse to do so, she said.
"Many gas stations using old pumps show they are disregarding the government proposal. And the inaccuracy of old pumps causes consumers great losses," she said.
She said YLKI asked Pertamina to sanction negligent gas station owners, reminding those who still used old pumps to replace them with digital ones as soon as possible.
Tini said gas station owners should be allowed to buy digital machines without being forced to buy them through appointed suppliers. (hhr)
