Digital financial services in Indonesia continue to evolve alongside changing societal needs. One key player in this sector, Jenius by SMBC Indonesia, will mark its 10th anniversary in August 2026, having recorded over 80 innovations since its launch in 2016.

Throughout its decade-long journey, service development has been achieved through a co-creation process involving user feedback and requirements. The various innovations developed cover domestic and international transactions, savings, cash flow management, investment, and protection.

“We would like to thank our Jenius users for their support and trust over the past ten years, allowing us to grow together. The decade-long journey of Jenint by SMBC Indonesia is also strengthened by the support of the SMBC group network, which possesses over four centuries of experience in the global financial industry,” said Irwan Tisnabudi, Head of Emerging Affluent at SMBC Indonesia.

He ensured that the company remains committed to providing increasingly comprehensive and relevant innovations for Indonesia’s digitally savvy population. One notable development recorded during this period is foreign currency transactions via the Jenius application. Users can save, exchange, send, and receive foreign currencies 24 hours a day, seven days a week. The three most frequently used foreign currencies are the US Dollar, Singapore Dollar, and Japanese Yen.

Usage data also shows that foreign currency transfers from Indonesia have reached as far as Brasilia, Brazil, and South Carolina, USA. In terms of distance, these transfers have spanned over 26,000 kilometres. Meanwhile, Jenius debit and credit cards have been used in 188 countries for both online and offline transactions, including cash withdrawals.

Service development also targets simultaneous transaction and savings activities. Through the ‘Pay & Save’ feature, users can conduct daily transactions while setting aside funds. One recorded user performed transactions and savings via ‘Pay & Save’ in Cash Cow 210 times in a single month.

Three New Currencies Added

In 2026, several new services will be introduced. One of these is ‘Yay Stickers’ through the ‘Play & Yay!’ mission. Additionally, three new foreign currencies will be available for use: the Turkish Lira, Swiss Franc, and Saudi Riyal.

These additions coincide with the tenth-anniversary celebrations of Jenius. The development of various services is claimed to be based on a co-creation process with users. This 10-year journey demonstrates an expansion in service scope, from daily financial transactions to cross-border transactions. Future service developments will continue to be directed through user co-creation.

The synergy between digital banking services and investment platforms is considered to support increased public participation in the capital market. PT Bank Danamon Indonesia Tbk (Danamube) held the Danamon Festival as part of its 70th-anniversary celebrations.

The company emphasised its ongoing role in improving national financial literacy through professional consultation and educational services. Students are encouraged to manage digital finances wisely, understanding the risks of FOMO, impulse buying, ‘paylater’ schemes, and loans, while maintaining personal data security in the digital era.

Technology serves not only as a means to accelerate loan processes but also to build literacy and inclusion in digital financial services. As part of the 2026 Harpelnas celebrations, customers also received appreciation based on sustainability principles, such as bags made from recycled plastic bags.

Furthermore, the public is continuously encouraged to recognise the characteristics of official banking products as part of efforts to enhance financial literacy. The updated service concepts demonstrate Bank Jakarta’s commitment to meeting societal needs while supporting Jakarta’s transformation into a global city.
