Digital Edge to Build Rp10 Trillion AI Data Centre
Jakarta (ANTARA) - Digital infrastructure company Digital Edge will build Indonesia’s largest artificial intelligence (AI)-based data centre through the acquisition of green financing worth $665 million or approximately Rp10 trillion. “From empowering businesses with high-performance digital infrastructure ready for AI workloads to delivering innovative solutions that reduce environmental impact, this financing underscores Digital Edge’s leadership in sustainable digital infrastructure,” said Digital Edge Chief Financial Officer Jonathan Walbridge in a written statement in Jakarta on Friday. The substantial funds are allocated to finance the initial phase of building the hyperscale CGK Campus data centre located in the Greenland International Industrial Center (GIIC) industrial area, Bekasi, West Java. The project is projected to have a total capacity of up to 500 megawatts (MW) to support the national digital ecosystem. This data centre is part of a multi-phase investment plan with a total value of $4.5 billion. The facility is positioned as one of the most significant AI-ready hyperscale data centre campuses in the country. Several global and national financial institutions are recorded as providing support for this green financing. Those institutions include BNP Paribas, Clifford Capital, Credit Agricole CIB, DBS, Mizuho, OCBC, PT Bank Central Asia Tbk, and SMBC. This investment comes amid a surge in demand for cloud computing services, massive data processing, and increasingly widespread adoption of AI technology in Indonesia. In addition to technological aspects, the project prioritises sustainability principles through a water recycling system and integration of renewable energy. These steps align with the implementation of Indonesia’s Sustainable Finance Taxonomy (TKBI) to achieve the net-zero emissions target by 2060.
