Communications and Digital Minister Meutya Hafid will summon Meta and Google. The two digital platforms are being called because they are deemed not to comply with Government Regulation number 17 of 2025 on the Protection of Governance of Electronic System Operators in Child Protection (PP Tunas). Meutya stated that both technology giants violated provisions from the Minister of Digital Affairs Regulation number 9 of 2026, which is the implementing regulation for PP Tunas. They did not comply with the restriction of social media access for children under 16 years old, which took effect on Saturday, 28 March 2026. The government has sent a summons letter as part of the implementation of administrative sanctions in accordance with applicable provisions,” said Meutya in an official statement quoted from Antara, Monday, 30 March 2026. Meutya added that those digital platforms are categorised as high-risk platforms and are required to limit children’s access to their services. However, all those platforms have not yet fulfilled their obligations to restrict children’s access to date. The government has also issued warning letters to TikTok and Roblox, which are categorised as partially cooperative platforms. The government asks them to immediately fulfil their commitment to restrict children’s access. If subsequently these two platforms (TikTok and Roblox) do not yet show full compliance, then the government will adjust to also issue summons letters to both platforms,” said Meutya. Since PP Tunas became effective on 28 March 2026, only platforms X and Bigo Live have fully complied with the regulation. Meutya Hafid previously asked all digital platforms doing business in Indonesia to immediately align their products, features, and services in accordance with applicable regulations. I emphasise that there is no compromise on compliance to operate in Indonesia. There must be no compromise,” said Meutya in an official statement shared by the Director of Communication Partnerships for Institutions and Public Relations of the Ministry of Communication and Digital, Marroli Jeni Indarto, on Saturday, 28 March 2026. For platforms that have not yet shown full compliance, the government emphasises that they should immediately complete all obligations without delay. The government has also prepared escalation steps and will not hesitate to take firm administrative actions to ensure that Indonesia’s digital space remains safe and child-friendly.
