SINGAPORE (Dow Jones): Stanley Fischer, International Monetary
Fund managing director, said in a magazine interview that it's
hard to estimate the timing of a recovery in Indonesia.
"It is difficult at this stage to know when recovery will
begin in Indonesia," he's quoted saying in the coming edition of
Asiaweek magazine. The magazine released a summary of the article
yesterday.
While Fischer said the Southeast Asian crisis "will be over
sooner if countries get on with their economic programs and the
international community provides financial support," he also
praised Indonesian ministers for their "determination."
The IMF managing director also said, "Expansion could return
to (South) Korea and Thailand late this year or early next year,"
according to the magazine's summary.
