Diesel Tanker Truck Catches Fire on Cipali Toll Road, Causing Traffic Delays
A tanker truck carrying diesel fuel caught fire on the Cipali Toll Road on Saturday (6/6/2026) at approximately 08:09 WIB, causing traffic congestion. The incident began as a collision involving a timber truck and the diesel tanker at KM 80+700 heading towards Cirebon. According to initial investigations, the accident was suspected to have started when the timber truck grazed the tanker while travelling in the same direction, triggering sparks.
“The sparks eventually caused the fire on the tanker truck,” said Ardam Rafif Trisilo, Head of Sustainability Management & Corporate Communications at Astra Tol Cipali, on Saturday. Video of the tanker fire went viral on social media, showing thick black smoke billowing high into the air and spreading across the motorway.
Road users reported the incident to authorities, prompting a rapid response from Astra Tol Cipali officers, the police, and the Subang and Purwakarta fire departments to extinguish the flames. Officers also secured the route and implemented traffic management measures. The fire was successfully extinguished by 10:09 WIB, after which officials focused on evacuating the vehicles.
“To ensure the safety and smoothness of the evacuation, lane one was temporarily closed, while lanes two and three remained operational for road users,” Ardam explained. He confirmed that there were no fatalities or injuries resulting from the incident. The investigation into the matter has been handed over entirely to the police. Following the incident, Astra Tol Cipali urged all motorway users to maintain a safe following distance and to remain vigilant regarding vehicle blind spots when driving or changing lanes.
