JAKARTA, KOMPAS.com – The rise in diesel prices is beginning to impact the used car market, particularly diesel-powered vehicles.

This trend is evident at auction houses, where demand for diesel cars has started to decline compared to previous periods.

“Demand for used diesel vehicles at JBA Indonesia’s auction house has shown a downward trend amid rising diesel prices,” Johan told KOMPAS.com (26/5/2026).

“Sales of diesel-powered vehicles remain stable for operational models such as diesel SUVs, commercial vehicles, and pickups,” Johan added.

“Compared to the same period last year, used diesel vehicles still account for around 12% of total vehicle sales,” he said.

“On the other hand, petrol-powered vehicles continue to dominate JBA Indonesia’s car sales, contributing approximately 80% of total units sold, with the remainder coming from electric (EV) and hybrid vehicles,” Johan stated.

However, the surge in diesel prices has made buyers more selective, putting downward pressure on the resale values of used diesel vehicles in the market.
