Dieng Caldera Race serves as a platform to promote sports tourism in Wonosobo
Deputy Minister of Tourism Ni Luh Puspa stated that the Dieng Caldera Race 2026 serves as a platform to promote Wonosobo as a sports tourism destination. While reviewing the event at the Tambi Tea Plantation in Wonosobo, Central Java, on Sunday (21/6), she said that destination-based sporting activities can encourage tourist movement, increase accommodation occupancy, and open up business opportunities for the surrounding community. “Ultimately, the Dieng Caldera Race is not just a running event, but also a highly effective tourism promotion medium,” she said, as quoted in a ministry press statement confirmed on Monday. “The Caldera Race is more than just a running event; it is an experience that combines sport, nature, and culture in one memorable series,” she added. She noted that the event could also drive improvements in the quality of tourism services and expand the benefits of tourism for the local community. Participants of the 2026 Dieng Caldera Race from various regions in Indonesia and abroad can enjoy the landscape of the Tambi Tea Plantation, Mount Sindoro, Sikendil Peak, and Mount Sibuthak. They can witness a blend of volcanic natural beauty, cultural richness, and the hospitality of the local community during the race. She expressed hope that the Dieng Caldera Race would develop into an icon of Indonesian sports tourism capable of attracting many tourists from both domestic and international markets. “The Ministry of Tourism is ready to strengthen collaboration to support the development of sports tourism in Indonesia while further introducing the natural beauty, cultural richness, and hospitality of the Indonesian people to the world,” she said. She conveyed that the success of a sports tourism event is measured not only by the consistency of its organisation but also by its benefits for the local community.
