Diaspora claims President Prabowo's diplomacy yields strategic benefits
Jakarta (ANTARA) - Diaspora Muda Nusantara believes that the international diplomacy conducted by President Prabowo Subianto has produced various strategic benefits for Indonesia, as explained by Cabinet Secretary Teddy Indra Wijaya.
The Chairperson of Diaspora Muda Nusantara, Muh. Akmal Harvi Muster, stated in a written statement in Jakarta on Tuesday that the success of diplomacy cannot be measured solely by the frequency of overseas trips, but rather by the results obtained for the national interest.
“In today’s highly dynamic global context, President Prabowo’s active diplomacy serves as a vital instrument to strengthen Indonesia’s position amidst global geopolitical and economic shifts,” said Akmal.
According to him, the various achievements presented by the government demonstrate that the President’s foreign visits are not merely ceremonial, but have resulted in numerous strategic partnerships across various sectors. These results include the strengthening of relations with various nations, increased economic cooperation, investment, and defence, as well as the opening of market access and new collaborative opportunities for Indonesia.
Akmal noted that criticism and input from various parties are essential parts of a democratic system, but criticism should be presented based on complete data and facts. He also expressed respect for the views of senior diplomat Dino Patti Djalal regarding President Prabowo’s overseas activities. However, he assessed that the strategic benefits of the government’s diplomacy are evident through the achievements presented to the public.
“The facts presented by the government show concrete results obtained from the President’s various foreign agendas,” he said.
Diaspora Muda Nusantara continued by stating its support for the government’s explanation that the President’s international visits and meetings are conducted based on national strategic needs and rapid global developments. Akmal noted that the direct presence of a head of state in international forums plays a crucial role in strengthening Indonesia’s bargaining power and increasing the confidence of international partners.
He added that the success of Indonesian diplomacy should be assessed objectively through the results achieved, including increased international cooperation and investment interest in Indonesia. “When discussing diplomacy, one must discuss results. When the results manifest as broader investment opportunities, the strengthening of strategic cooperation, and an enhanced position for Indonesia on the global stage, then it deserves appreciation as real work for the national interest,” he said.
As an organisation representing young Indonesian diaspora members in various countries, Diaspora Muda Nusantara believes that the government’s active diplomacy also strengthens Indonesia’s international image and opens wider spaces for collaboration for the younger Indonesian generation abroad. Akmal hopes that all elements of the nation can support national strategic agendas while maintaining constructive and fact-based criticism.
Previously, Cabinet Secretary Teddy Indra Wijaya emphasised that the series of President Prabowo Subianto’s working visits abroad over the last 1.5 years has successfully yielded various concrete achievements for Indonesia’s national interest. “It would be a great mistake to say it is merely for show or ceremonial. We must look at what has been achieved in the last 1.5 years,” said Teddy, as quoted from an official broadcast of the Cabinet Secretariat in Jakarta on Monday.
Teddy explained that one tangible result of this diplomacy is Indonesia’s joining of BRICS, which has helped maintain fuel stock stability and keep subsidised fuel prices stable amidst the global crisis. Furthermore, Indonesia has successfully secured 0 per cent tariffs for exports to 25 European Union countries starting from 2025. President Prabowo’s diplomacy has also impacted the smooth conduct of the Hajj pilgrimage through strategic cooperation with Saudi Arabia, including the ownership of a Hajj village for Indonesian pilgrims. Additionally, Indonesia’s active role for Palestine has been realised through the delivery of air logistics, hospital ships, and the provision of scholarships for Palestinian students in Indonesia.
