Diarrhea, skin rash attack flood victims

BANDA ACEH, Aceh: Diarrhea and skin rashes have afflicted the
people evacuated from last week's floods, a health official said.

"We've been getting two to three patients with diarrhea and
skin rashes per day since Wednesday," Rianti, a staff member at
Langsa General Hospital's emergency unit, told Antara.

There were also complaints of flu and fever among the people
who have lived in open spaces or in makeshift shelters for the
past week, she said.

She said that the hospital so far has managed to deal with the
growing number of patients, many of whom are treated and
discharged on the same day. (imn)
