Diarrhea kills 34 in Irian Jaya

MERAUKE, Irian Jaya: A diarrhea outbreak has killed 34 people
and forced the hospitalization of dozens of others in the
southern coast area of Irian Jaya.

The Antara news agency quoted a health official of the Merauke
regency as saying yesterday that most of the casualties of the
outbreak, which began spreading about a week ago, were children.

Medical help has been dispatched to the stricken areas of
Merauke city and the Kasuari Beach sub-district. (swe)
